BIBONASE Nasal Spray is a combination medicine. It contains Azelastine and Fluticasone propionate as active components. 

BIBONASE Nasal Spray is a fast-acting nasal spray, mainly prescribed for people with chronic conditions like sinusitis and rhinitis and symptoms associated with them such as nasal and sinus congestion, runny or blocked nose, sneezing, post-nasal drip, etc.
It is also effective in reversing the rebound congestion caused by irrational use of oxymetazoline nasal spray.

An allergy is a condition in which the immune system responds to foreign particles (known as allergens) in an abnormal way. Generally, these allergens are not harmful. A person can be allergic to certain medicines, foods or the dust particles like pollens, animal fur, cold air, etc.

SIDE EFFECTS

The common side effects include:

The side effects are generally mild and would resolve on their own.
Severe side effects-

  • Dizziness

  • Use BIBONASE Nasal Spray as directed by your doctor.
  • Wash your hands before and after using the spray.
  • Blow off the nose gently before using this spray.
  • If you are using the spray for the first time or after a few days or weeks, it is better to shake the bottle gently and prime it.
  • While using the spray in one nostril, keep the other nostril closed.
  • Slowly inhale while you spray BIBONASE Nasal Spray towards the sides of the nostril.
  • Clean and dry the tip of the spray after each use.

Azelastine hydrochloride is an antihistamine. It blocks the action of endogenous histamine (a chemical responsible for allergic symptoms) by binding to the histamine receptors, which leads to temporary relief from the ill effects of histamine.

Fluticasone propionate is a steroid. It reduces the inflammation (swelling) in the nasal and sinus area by acting on various cells responsible for inflammation.

Children
BIBONASE Nasal Spray should not be used in children below six years.

Pregnancy
Limited human data is available on the safety of BIBONASE Nasal Spray in pregnancy. However, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Hence, it is better to avoid using this medicine.

Lactating mothers
BIBONASE Nasal Spray is safe to use if prescribed by the doctor. However, it is better to avoid self-medication.

Driving
BIBONASE Nasal Spray may cause drowsiness in some individuals. Hence it is better to avoid driving and operating heavy machinery if you feel sleepy after using this spray.

Alcohol
Using BIBONASE Nasal Spray along with alcohol may increase the side effects of this medicine (less frequent). Hence it is better to avoid alcohol while taking this medicine.

Liver diseases
It is advised to use BIBONASE Nasal Spray only if prescribed by the doctor.

Kidney diseases
It is advised to use BIBONASE Nasal Spray only if prescribed by the doctor.

Other general warnings
Tell your doctor if:

  • You have recently undergone nasal or Para-nasal sinus surgery.
  • You have any medical condition like high blood pressure, diabetes, ulcer or wound in the nasal area, etc.
  • You have a fungal, viral or bacterial infection of the nose, throat or any part of the respiratory tract.
  • You have chickenpox, measles, cataracts or tuberculosis.
  • You are taking any other steroids by the oral or injectable route.
  • Your symptoms are getting worse after using this spray.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not use BIBONASE Nasal Spray if you are allergic to Azelastine, Fluticasone, or any other ingredient of this medicine.

Missed dose
Take BIBONASE Nasal Spray as soon as you remember. But if it is the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue as regular. Do not take a double dose of this medicine to compensate for the missed dose.

Overdose
BIBONASE Nasal Spray is for intranasal use only. So chances of overdose are unlikely. However, if you use the spray more than recommended by your doctor, contact your doctor or visit a nearby hospital immediately.

Drug-drug interactions:
Effect: Certain medicines like antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole, fluconazole, etc.), antidepressants (duloxetine, escitalopram), anticonvulsants (pregabalin), antivirals (ritonavir) and anti-histamines (cetirizine) may worsen the side effects of BIBONASE Nasal Spray.

Taking other steroids in oral or injectable form may cause a synergistic action on the side effects.

Remedy: Avoid using these medicines along with BIBONASE Nasal Spray to prevent the side effects. It is better to inform your doctor regarding all the medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, ayurvedic, homoeopathic or dietary supplements.

Drug-food interactions:
Effect: Grapefruit juice may interact with the effectiveness of BIBONASE Nasal Spray.

Remedy: It is better to avoid taking this fruit juice while taking this medicine.

Effect: Alcohol may increase the side effects of BIBONASE Nasal Spray, such as dizziness, drowsiness and difficulty concentrating.

Remedy: Avoid alcohol while taking BIBONASE Nasal Spray. Avoid driving, operating heavy machinery or something that requires mental alertness if you feel sleepy after taking this medicine.

Drug-disease interactions:
Effect: Certain health conditions like chickenpox, measles, tuberculosis, respiratory tract infection, recent nasal or sinus surgery, cataracts, infection of the eyes, glaucoma, wound or ulcers in the nose can worsen due to BIBONASE Nasal Spray.

Remedy: It is better to inform your doctor if you have any of these medical conditions before taking this medicine.

Diet modification:

  • Adding ginger and tulsi to your tea will help reduce the inflammation and infection in the respiratory tract.
  • Stay well hydrated. It helps clear the extra mucus and dust particles from the nose, sinuses and airways.
  • Drink warm water or drinks to reduce the inflammation of the airways.
  • Avoid dairy products as they may thicken the mucus in the nose, sinuses and airways. Thick mucus may make breathing difficult.
  • Avoid spicy, fried foods as they may worsen allergic symptoms like watery eyes and runny nose.
  • Include honey, green leafy vegetables, broccoli, turmeric, etc., which may help improve immunity and deal with allergic symptoms.

Lifestyle changes:

  • Avoid exposure to allergens.
  • Always wear a mask in crowded and polluted places.
  • Practice deep breathing exercises to improve lung capacity and health.
  • Nasal irrigation with saline water is an effective way to clean the nasal and sinus areas.
  • Gargles are effective in healing sore throats and infections of the oral cavity.
