In Indian households ginger have been in use since ancient times be it for cooking or medicinal use. It is a popular home remedy for soothing cough, facilitating digestion, relieving , treating stomach pain and other health issues.

1. Soothes sore throat and treats cough
Ginger helps in relieving sore throat and soothes dry cough. A study suggested that anti-inflammatory properties of ginger can relax membranes in the airway and thus reduce coughing. In 2013, researchers studied the effects of fresh ginger on one respiratory virus in human cells. The results indicated that fresh ginger may help protect the respiratory system.
2. Relieving pain
The anti-inflammatory properties of ginger reduces exercise-induced muscle pain and releases muscle tension.
3. Improves digestion and gut health
Research indicates that ginger is a carminative and enzymes in ginger can help the body to eliminate and expel gas from the bowel. It also relaxes the smooth muscle of the intestines. Ginger also appears to have beneficial effects on the enzymes trypsin and pancreatic lipase, which are important for digestion.

6. Fights Infection
Fresh ginger contains a chemical substance called Gingerol, that can help lower the risk of infections and thus ginger extract can stop the growth of different types of bacteria. It is very effective against the oral bacteria linked to inflammatory diseases in the gums, such as gingivitis and periodontitis.
7. Rich source of anti-oxidant
Ginger is an excellent source of antioxidant. Antioxidants are substances that protect our cells against free radicals, which damages our DNA and thus contributes to premature aging, heart ailments, cancer and various other ailments. Free radicals are produced in the body while breaking down food or when one is exposed to radiation or tobacco smoke.
